This section describes the ways in which student organizations (CIOs), special status organizations (SSOs) and fraternal organizations (FOs) can use the University of Virginia name and logo. Any other uses of the University marks, symbols, logos, mottoes or other indicia are prohibited without the written approval of the University of Virginia Licensing Program. Note that this prohibition does not apply to the Honor Committee, University Judiciary Committee, or University Programs Council.
CIOs, SSOs and FOs may use the University of Virginia name in the following form:
"The [INSERT NAME] Club (or Council) at the University of Virginia”
They are not permitted to describe themselves in any other form, such as “The University of Virginia [INSERT NAME] Club” or as “UVA [INSERT NAME] Club.” This rule applies to any usage, including as part of a top-level domain name.
"UVA"
Use the UVA abbreviation after having formally acknowledged "the University of Virginia." We use the capital VA because UVA is the flagship public University for the Commonwealth of Virginia and VA is the official abbreviation of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
